My Goodness

A good cup of coffee.

A good internet connection.

A good feeling for those who care enough to include you in their addressee list.

A good bit of patience, understanding and open-mindedness for those whose opinions - however obviously and patently absurd, incorrect, uniformed, unsubstantiated, inarticulate and obtuse - don't coincide with ours.

A good perception that there's a chance, albeit slim, they may be correct.

A good book.

A good appreciation of your instructors if you can even begin to read it in another language.

A good conversation with your geezer pals at morning coffee.

A good surgeon and good success if you or a loved-one is having something repaired or replaced.

A good bit of patience for those who, for whatever reason, may need a bit more time and perhaps a little help.

A good crop of peppers, or colony of rabbits, or TV appearance, or real estate closure, or craft sale, or business trip, or weather and site conditions at your latest development.

A good cold  bottle of beer when you really want one.

A good plate of barbecue and slaw next to that beer.

A good bowl of jalepeņos, pupus, lumpia, souvlaki, dolmas, gyoza, pad thai, king crab, Shepherd's Pie or Gulaschsuppe to reminisce with. Or kim chee or nuoc mam if you're man enough. Or even fugu if you're adventurous enough.

A good dessert of Spotted Dick if you can bring yourself to order it.

A good wine at a reasonable price.

A good chance it'll complement the flavor of your cheeseburger and fries.

A good steak, cooked just the way you like.

A good single malt, or brandy, or rakija, or raki, or Steinhager, or Stoli, or Sake, or ...

A good day in the boat, on the dock or on the bank with hook, line andsinker.

A good spring training and season for your favorite baseball team.

A good finish for your favorite NASCAR team.

A good game on Monday Night Football.

A good Friday night high school game.

A good BCS restructuring so your team gets a righteous ranking at bowltime.

A good Super Bowl regardless of who plays.

A good bit of tolerance for those who, for whatever unfathomable reason, enjoy the NBA and NHL (when they're actually playing, that is).

A good drive off the tee.

A good first serve.

A good at bat in slow pitch.

A good finish, or simply a finish for that matter, in a 5K, 10K, 1/2 or even full 26.2 mile run.

A good hole card.

A good run down a black diamond slope.

A good clear shot at Bambi but also a nagging thought about your cover and concealment if Bambi could fire back and was part of a four-deer fire team.

A good appreciation for someone - anyone - called Bubba.

A good bit of sympathy for the mothers, sisters, wives and/or girlfriends of guys called Bubba.

A good bit of understanding and tolerance if the mothers, sisters, wives and/or girlfriends are themselves called Bubba and/or are related by birth, blood, marriage, trailer park or cell block.

A good Mason jar of 'shine to share with someone trying it for thefirst time.

A good bust if you're a LEO.

A good mess of grits on your plate.

A good bit of judgment not to use the g-word afterward.

A good bill of health from the body mechanics.

A good set of year-end numbers for your business and your investments

A good job if you're looking for one.

A good performance appraisal and raise if you're working at one.

A good retirement if you're not doing either.

A good deed for you to do for someone without them knowing who did it.

A good piece of ... berry pie with ice cream.

A good cigar if you're so inclined.

A good deal of forgiveness - actually, a great deal of forgiveness - for those whose puns and jokes are like an uninhabited Alaska - unbearable.

A good sermon for believers by a really good bible thumper.

A good discussion with that thumper for non-believers.

A good reminder that we live in a country where you can publicly and safely profess to be either.

A good amount for both of them, as well as for all of us, to drop in the Salvation Army kettle.

A good seat at an airshow or just a good view of a -130 or -135 flying over your neck of the woods.

A good feeling that one of our newer PWGers may still have an occasional chance to see a B-17 overhead and perhaps even fly in one after so many years.

A good bit of regret that some PWGers don't get to see a B-29, B-50, B-47, Electric Goon or Connie overhead.

A good and sweet thought for the Tart man who brought so many together after so many years and has done so much to recognize the fallen and their brethren.

A good "thank you!" for those who've helped him and other colleagues on- and off-line.

A good PWG reunion, full-scale, mini- or simply you alone remembering your friends and colleagues and the contribution you all made.

A good understanding - as some Jack off reminds us - that it was, is and will be a team effort.

A good thought for those who went before and a good wish for those whofollow.

A good and pleasant feeling that some of our colleagues are recognized on a hill in San Antonio.

A good but sorrowful feeling that some other colleagues are recognized on a plaque in front of an airplane in Maryland and in our memories of the Sea of Japan, Alaskan waters and a base and jungle in Southeast Asia.

A good and safe mission for our colleagues still flying and a thought for all our troops in harm's way.

A good remembrance for those who have made their last flight.

A good shot with your digital camera of your child's recital, graduation, christening, bar mitzvah, commissioning, wedding or simply their smiling face.

A good reason to share that picture with your PWG colleagues.

A good time watching your children's or grandchildren's soccer, Little League, first cannonball off the board, choir, play, spelling bee or band concert.

A good trip to Grandma's house this week.

A good place to hide and watch football while the work's being done if you're Granddad.

And especially,

A good New Year for you, your family and your friends following a joyous Christmas, (belated) happy Hanukkah, meaningful Kwanzaa or PC holiday Season.

This is what Joan and I wish you all from beautiful Bellevue, Washington.
